The 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V now comes in a refreshed avatar in the Nepalese market. Termed as the Apache RTR 200 4V Smart Xonnect ABS, the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V gets more than just cosmetic upgrades. It gets TVS’s ‘SmartXonnect’ Bluetooth connectivity system, new front face, new race-inspired decals and a single channel supermoto ABS system. We recently put the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V on a test to check if these new additions have further upped the RTR 200 4V’s desirability quotient.
The 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V sports refreshed aesthetics as compared to the outgoing model. For 2020, the motorcycle gets all-new race-inspired graphics and decals, new LED headlamp with claw position lamps to lend an imposing stance. Much of the Apache RTR 200 4V’s feel-good factor comes from this refreshed styling. The rest is very familiar with the earlier generation RTR 200 4V.
The most noteworthy upgrade for the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4v in the Nepalese market has been the addition of TVS’s ‘SmartXonnect’ Bluetooth technology. The SmartXonnect Bluetooth technology allows riders to pair their smartphones via the ‘TVS Connect’ app. The feature is also displayed on the white backlit instrument console. The SmartXonnect technology displays a wide range of impressive information like Race telemetry, turn-by-turn navigation, call/sms alert, low fuel warning and assist, crash alert system and lean angle mode. There’s a dedicated info/control switch on the handlebar to toggle between the different features of this system.
The 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V in our market is powered by the same BS4 197.75cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out 20.2 bhp at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.1 Nm at 7000 rpm. All this power is sent to the rear wheel via a 5-speed gearbox. The engine still uses a carburettor system instead of fuel-injection.
Twist open the throttle and the motor comes to life with a punchy note. The compact five-speed gearbox shifts smoothly, and the clutch feel is also good. The motorcycle continues to employ an RT Slipper Clutch to improve the riding experience. In layman’s terms, the RT slipper clutch improves safety during high-speed downshifts, avoids wheel hopping while cornering, and improves the bike’s stability. And that improves the overall riding experience. The finest thing about the Apache is that power is always available at the twist of your wrist. The bike sprints smoothly through the wide powerband.
Although the motorcycle likes being revved hard, the mid-range is where it excels freely before you approach the redline. What’s lacking though is the sixth gear. Riders will come away disappointed for not having a much able machine. We pushed the bike to its limit before mild vibes started creeping in at 7000 rpm. However, performance is brisk for this segment.
The Apache RTR 200 4V takes just 3.9 seconds to achieve a speed of 60kmph from a standstill and TVS claims a top speed of 128 kmph. Suspension duties on the 2020 Apache RTR 200 are handled by the same race-derived double-cradle frame, which gets a KYB suspension setup, comprising of 37mm front forks and a rear mono-shock.
Although the suspension setup falls on the softer side of the spectrum, it doesn’t spoil the overall riding experience. The suspension system works well to soak in all undulations and potholes our roads frequently offer. The RTR 200 4V provides well-padded wide split seats. And, the upright riding position coupled with slightly-rear set footpegs makes for good ride quality, making the bike effortless to ride in heavy city traffic or committing cornering runs. Sporty alloy wheels of the bike now come draped with grippier 90/90 front and 130/70 rear Eurogrip Protorq SR racing spec tubeless tyre. Braking duties are handled by 270mm front and 240mm rear petal disc brake. And as a cherry on top, a single-channel ABS is provided as standard.
The addition of ABS helps the bike stop with confidence, holding its line well even under panic braking. The ‘Apache’ moniker has been an able performer for over a decade now and there’s no doubt that the current 2020 upgrade will replicate the same capabilities. The 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V is a strong package with its newest upgrades and attractive pricing of Rs 3.41 Lakh. The naked street bike is continuously evolving to be the best motorcycle in its class and the addition of the ‘SmartXonnect’ system has further enhanced the desirability quotient of the motorcycle.
