First, the bonkers track weapon in the form of the Senna. Then, a straight line speed monster in the form of the Speedtail. Now, the ultimate continent touring car in the form of this… The McLaren GT. Designed to take on the likes of the Aston Martin DB11, the Ferrari Portofino, the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Bentley Continental, the GT brings a unique combination of a lightweight construction, powerful new twin-turbo V8 engine and unprecedented interior space never seen before in a product of the Woking-based company that promises to change the game in the grand tourer segment.

As the case with all the supercars, let’s talk numbers, the GT employs a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission delivers 620 horsepower and 630Nm of torque at 5,500 and 6,500 rpm shooting the GT from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in just 9 seconds flat, that’s faster than it took you to read this line. And flat out the GT will do 326 km/h… now that’s the number you need to cross continents with ease.  The new GT has a carbon fiber structure that possesses exceptional strength and rigidity while enabling unparalleled driving dynamics and lightest-in-class weight. At 1,530kg (DIN), the McLaren GT is more than 130kg lighter than its closest core competitor and literally hundreds of kilograms less than other cars in the segment.

On the inside, you’ll find a cozy space designed for long trips with comfortable, electrically adjustable, and heated seats with extra padding and shoulder plus back support optimized for long-distance travels. To further improve ride comfort the suspension of the GT relies on a version of the 720S’ Optimal Control Theory chassis, which uses signals from sensors to read the road ahead, predict what is likely to happen next, and adjust the dampers in just two milliseconds. In addition, three active steering modes are available – Comfort, Sport, and Track. There are ambient lighting and an optional electrochromic glass roof instead of the standard glassy black carbon fiber panel. A 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system with carbon fiber subwoofer and Kevlar midrange speakers is also available at an additional cost.

With continent-crossing speeds and optimum ride comfort ticked, the 3rd pillar of any grand tourer is space. No point crossing continents if you wear the same clothes every day. The GT has a giant tick on the luggage department as well. McLaren says it has positioned the engine and its exhaust system as low as possible to free up more space. At the back, there’s a 420-liter luggage compartment hiding underneath a glass tailgate with soft-close function as standard and an optional power opening and closing. Another 150-liter cargo space is located at the front for a grand total of 570 liters which is the most you’ll find in a McLaren.

The new McLaren GT is available to order now from McLaren retailers worldwide, with customer deliveries commencing towards the end of 2019. UK pricing starts at £163,000 including taxes.
