BYD has revealed the Atto 2, its entry-level electric SUV, in the European market. Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, this marks BYD’s latest EV offering for both European and UK consumers. The Atto 2 is positioned as a smaller, more budget-friendly alternative to the Atto 3.
The Atto 2 is essentially a rebranded version of BYD's Yuan Up, an affordable compact SUV that debuted in China in February 2024. In terms of size, the Atto 2 measures 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,675mm in height, making it 145mm shorter and 45mm narrower than the Atto 3. Despite its smaller dimensions, the Atto 2 offers up to 1,430 liters of cargo space with the rear seats folded down.
Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Atto 2 is the brand’s first compact SUV to feature Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, which integrates the battery directly into the vehicle’s chassis. This design improves space efficiency and enhances overall structural rigidity.
The Atto 2 comes equipped with a 45.1kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery paired with a 174bhp front-mounted electric motor, offering a WLTP range of 312 km. However, BYD has announced that a version with a larger battery will be available soon, providing a longer driving range.
The Atto 2's front features seamlessly integrated full-LED headlights, complemented by sleek daytime running lights. The front bumper has sharp angles with striking lower highlights and vertical air curtains at the corners. The vehicle’s side profile is marked by a ‘floating’ roofline, highlighted by a body-coloured trim that meets the glass at the C-pillar.
At the rear, a distinctive roof spoiler sits above a full-width light bar, connecting to ‘Chinese knot’ tail lights that resemble the number 8 and the Mobius Infinity Ring.
