As long as you have money, owning a car is possible. Owning, restoring, and keeping a classic car is a completely different ball game. This is especially true when you live in a country like Nepal. Without delving too much into it, the hurdles set by the Government and logistic obstacles make owning classic cars very difficult in Nepal. Thus, the commitment required to keep a classic car is something that is born of pure passion.
It takes a person completely overcome this obsession to embark on such a journey. Luckily, there are a few courageous souls who do just that. There are classic car collectors who go to great lengths to restore older cars and keep them in running condition, and a few of them came together at the Heritage Drive 2022.
This event was organized by Vintage & Classic Wheels Nepal and brought together several classic cars, 20 years and older, together for a drive around the Capital. The drive started from Basantapur to Bhimsentan - Chhauni-Sitapaila- Kalanki- Balkhu-Sanepa - Baagdol -Jawalakhel- Pulchowk- Mahapaal- Mangalbazar -Hakha.
Not only was the event a great success, but it also exemplified the love that Nepal has for classic cars. We hope to see more classic cars being restored and running. Cars back in the day were built differently, so still using them as daily drivers is not a thought that is not too farfetched. In fact, there are a few that drive the roads of Nepal every day.
This event was an encouraging step in the right direction toward preserving the automotive heritage of Nepal. Here are a few glimpses of the event and the amazing cars that joined in.
