Hyundai India will unveil its new compact SUV, codenamed the Hyundai QXi, in India on April 17. Before that, the company will officially announce the SUV's nameplate next week. This upcoming compact SUV will be positioned below the Creta and will rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Suzuki Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and the Mahindra XUV300. Although 60 percent of the compact SUV’s R&D has been carried out in India, the QXi will be a global model for Hyundai.
The teaser video of the compact SUV was released last week. Although the side profile will be similar to that of the Creta, the QXi gets its styling inspired by the Kona and the new Tucson. On the inside, like other Hyundai cars, one can expect an excellent fit and finish, and a plethora of features. The QXi is also rumored to be equipped with a segment-first ventilated seats. Features like a sunroof, climate control CarPlay and Android Auto too will be made a part of the equipment list.
The compact SUV will be available in India with three engine-gearbox options – a 100 bhp 1.4-litre petrol, a 90 bhp 1.4-litre diesel and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol. While the first two will come with 6-speed manual transmissions, the latter will be available with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The QXi AT will be the only dual-clutch option in the compact SUV segment.
