Hyundai Reveals the Ioniq 9: A New Three-Row Electric SUV

Hyundai has introduced the Ioniq 9, a spacious, all-electric three-row SUV, marking its largest electric vehicle to date. The design draws inspiration from the 2021 Ioniq 7 concept.

The Ioniq 9 is equipped with a 110.3kWh nickel manganese cobalt lithium-ion battery, enabling the Long-Range rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version to achieve a WLTP-estimated range of 620km when paired with standard 19-inch wheels.

Available in Long-Range and Performance trims, the Long-Range RWD variant features a 218hp, 350Nm motor positioned at the rear axle. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 9.4 seconds and from 80 to 120 kph in 6.8 seconds. The Long-Range all-wheel-drive (AWD) model adds a 95hp, 255Nm motor to the front axle, cutting the 0-100kph time to 6.7 seconds and the 80-120kph time to 4.8 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Performance trim, equipped with dual 218hp motors, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and 80 to 120 km/h in 3.4 seconds, with a maximum speed of 200 km/h. The Ioniq 9 also includes advanced features such as Terrain Traction Control and an AI-powered Auto Terrain Mode, which adapts the drivetrain based on road surfaces. Dynamic torque vectoring improves handling, while lateral wind stability control ensures steady driving at higher speeds.

Inside, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 offers a luxurious lounge-like atmosphere with a dual-tone Dark Teal and Dove Grey finish. A curved display integrates a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch infotainment screen. An eight-speaker sound system is standard, while a premium 14-speaker Bose system is optional.

The Ioniq 9 provides 620 litres of cargo space in the boot, expandable to 1,323 litres with the third-row seats folded. RWD models include an 88-litre frunk, whereas AWD versions feature a 52-litre compartment.

At 5,060mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,790mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130mm, the Ioniq 9 stands larger than Kia’s EV9 in several dimensions, making it a prominent entry in the electric SUV market.
