BNCAP tested the top-spec HTX+ petrol variant with a DCT gearbox and the mid-spec HTK(O) petrol with a manual transmission, though the rating applies across the entire petrol range.

In terms of safety equipment, the Syros comes well-prepared with six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) offered as standard. It also features seatbelt reminders for all passengers, ISOFIX anchor points for child seats, and a passenger airbag deactivation switch.

The car meets AIS-100 pedestrian protection standards as well. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Syros scored 14.21 out of 16, with good protection for the head and neck of both the driver and passenger, and adequate protection for the driver’s chest and knees. It earned a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test, while the side pole impact rating was marked as acceptable.

For child safety, the Syros scored 23.42 out of 24 in the dynamic test and 10 out of 12 for child seat installation. Both an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old dummy were tested in rearward-facing child seats placed in the front passenger seat using ISOFIX anchors and a support leg.

Interestingly, the Syros is built on Kia’s smaller K1 platform—used in models like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Exter—but in a reinforced form with extensive use of hot-stamped components. Kia claims this updated platform not only improves crash safety performance but also supports newer electrical and electronic systems.
