The NADA Auto Show is back in business after three years, albeit in a slightly different avatar.NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal (NADA) is organizing the first ever EV Expo in Nepal, an exclusive exhibition on electric vehicles, components and ancillary from September 22 to 25 at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall, Kathmandu.
As a result of the import ban, this year’s Auto Show is exclusively featuring electric vehicles. And we are not complaining. The last few years have been difficult, there’s no point sugar-coating it. The pandemic, the import bans, the impending economic crisis, it’s all pretty bad. However, the NADA EV EXPO 2022 comes as a beacon of hope in these grim times.
The prospect of electric vehicles in Nepal appears positive. Nepal imported 1805 electric vehicles in the fiscal year 2021/22, seven times the recorded figure of 261 of the previous fiscal year 2020/2021. Furthermore, the Nepalese government wants to switch to light electric vehicles by 2031. While that is, indeed, a tall order to fulfil, one thing is for certain, things have never looked better for EVs in Nepal. Nevertheless, we will be the first to take this auto show as a sign of good things to come.
The NADA EV Expo 2022 will host the participation of seven 4-wheeler brands, one 3-wheeler brand, sixteen 2-wheeler brands, three brands of tyres, two brands of battery, nine companies of garage equipment, components and Nepal Drives along with four financial institutions.
