NEA Establishes EV Charging Station In Ratnapark, Kathmandu; How Much Does It Cost To Charge?

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has inaugurated an EV charging station on its premises in Ratnapark, Kathmandu. The station was inaugurated by Hon. Pampha Bhusal, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

In order to promote the use of electric vehicles and increase the efficiency of the energy sector, NEA is in a campaign to establish fast vehicle charging stations in major cities and highways of the country. For this, 51 charging stations are being established in different places in the country. In addition, NEA has signed an agreement to build 17 charging stations operated by the Armed Police and 25 operated by the Nepal Police.

Every charging station being constructed by the authority will be equipped with a 142 kW charger, a 50 kVA transformer for power supply, and an online charging system. Fast charging 60/60 KW DC and 22 KW AC chargers will be placed at the charging stations depending upon the location. Similarly, NEA has also developed the necessary NSP (National Service Provider) system has been developed to make online bookings. The authority's mobile app can be used for payment of the charge amount.

According to the authority, vehicle charging costs an average of 70 paisa per kilometer for cars, 80 paisa for SUVs, 90 paisa for microbuses, and Rs 1 for buses.
