The MG S5 electric car, which is set to launch in Nepal, has also received approval for sale in Australia. As the successor to the MG ZS EV, the MG S5 will be offered with three battery configurations, all featuring rear-wheel drive, and will be available in two trim levels.

The MG S5 is built on the same Modular Scalable Platform as the MG 4 electric hatchback and the Cyberster electric roadster. This platform is designed to deliver enhanced performance, smoother handling, and superior comfort with its rear-wheel-drive layout.

In China, the MG S5 EV comes with two battery options: a 49.1kWh and a 62.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack, developed in collaboration with CATL, a leading battery manufacturer.

The base MG S5 EV is powered by a 125kW motor with 250Nm of torque, while higher variants are available with more powerful options, such as 150kW/250Nm and 180kW/350Nm motors, similar to those found in the MG4 EV. The MG S5 EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8 seconds and has a top speed of 170 km/h, offering an exciting option for performance-oriented drivers.

Another standout feature is its ultra-thin battery, measuring just 110mm thick, which contributes to the car’s sleek design, spaciousness, and efficiency. With a range of 425km to 525km (according to CLTC testing), the MG S5 EV surpasses the MG ZS EV, allowing for longer trips with fewer charging interruptions.

The car measures 4476mm in length, 1849mm in width, and 1621mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2730mm. This makes it slightly larger than both its predecessor, the ZS EV, and its competitor, the BYD Atto 3.

Inside, the S5 EV sets a new standard with a premium interior that includes a 15.6-inch infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, heated and ventilated leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof (available in higher trims).

The MG S5 is expected to arrive in showrooms in the first quarter of 2025.
