As per reports, Nissan has officially pulled the plug on its Datsun sub-brand in India. However, Nissan hasn’t officially announced the exit of Datsun from India and none of its models have been removed from the website. Datsun India line-up includes Redi-Go compact hatchback, Go hatchback and Go+ mini-MPV.Nissan relaunched Datsun in India in January 2014 following which it made its entry into Indonesia, South Africa, and Russia. However, the brand could barely perform well owing to lackluster sales and cost-cutting measures which led to poor product quality, poor sales network, major reshuffling at the top management and dismal performance in safety tests. This led Nissan to slowly phase out the Datsun brand globally.Nissan had already discontinued production of Datsun models in Russia and Indonesia by early 2020. India was the only remaining market where Datsun was still operational. Datsun's production in the Indian market has been stopped as part of Nissan’s global transformation strategy wherein increased focus has shifted to core models and segments to benefit consumers and dealers alike. However, the brand has assured that all Datsun owners will continue to get after-sales service, spare parts, and warranty support from its national dealership network. In its statement, Nissan said, “We can reassure all existing and future Datsun owners that customer satisfaction remains our priority, and we will continue to provide the highest levels of aftersales service, parts availability and warranty support from our national dealership network.Datsun becomes the third multinational brand to exit India following General Motors and Ford Motor Company in recent years.
