The first leaked renderings of the upcoming Renault Kwid EV are now out. Showcased as the K-ZE concept during the Paris Motor Show last year, the Kwid EV will look more like the regular model than the K-ZE concept showcased earlier.
As you can see from the pictures, the all-electric Kwid sports a host of styling changes when compared to its petrol-powered counterpart. The main distinguishing features are the new closed section grille, LED headlights and integrated LED DRLs. The changes at the side look minimal except the black claddings around the wheel arches and on the door panels. At the rear, the Kwid EV gets new LED tail lights and a dual-tone bumper. The purpose of the front and rear air intake seems cosmetic rather functional.[gallery size="full" ids="7714,7713,7712"]Battery capacity, range and other technical details of the Kwid EV remain unknown. However, according to reports, it will have a driving range of more than 250 km. That being said, the Kwid EV is being developed in partnership with a Chinese manufacturer, Dongfeng, which has an annual production capacity of 1,20,000 units.Spy shots of the Kwid EV undergoing tests in China provide a glimpse of its cabin, which now gets blue accents on the centre console and the steering wheel, representing the zero-emissions design.
The production of the Kwid EV is expected to start by the end of this year in China but India launch will not happen before 2020.
