Every luxury car manufacturer who made only cars have been making an SUV lately, not to say that it’s bad, but it felt quite unusual to see these brands who made only luxury or performance cars went ahead and decided to make an SUV. Bentley did it, Jaguar did it, Lamborghini did it and now Rolls Royce, after a century of just making sedans it has finally taken a shot at the SUV game with the Cullinan, and this is probably the most luxurious one yet.
The most anticipated car of 2018 and, quite possibly, the most anticipated Rolls-Royce of all time. Named after the largest diamond ever discovered which now resides in the British Crown Jewels. The company calls it an all-terrain high-bodied car that makes the idea of authentic, luxury off-road travel a reality for the first time. Rolls have given their SUV a contemporary and functional design ensures Cullinan gains iconic status in the face of increasingly bland SUV designs.
Cullinan is also the first “three-box” car in the SUV-sector as it has rear partition wall that creates a distinct environment for passengers, separated from the luggage compartment. Cullinan is the second new Rolls-Royce to sit on the all-new aluminium ‘Architecture of Luxury’ platform and is the most technologically advanced vehicle from the Rolls.
All this luxury has also been tested to destruction all over the planet, which makes Cullinan an incredibly capable off-roader. The offroading in this SUV has been amazingly simplified, you don’t need to press a whole lot of buttons, shift to different gears, turn dials or knobs, there is a button the central console that says “offroad” you press that… and that’s it!
Powering the Cullinan is the 6.75 litre twin-turbo V12 Rolls-Royce engine delivers 563BHp and 850Nm of torque to the all-new all-wheel drive and an all-wheel steer system. Not that price matters to the ones who will actually buy the Cullinan, however, it will start at $325,000 and will only climb from there depending on how you want it. The Cullinan is going to give some serious competition to luxury SUVs and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for luxury SUV segment.
