Huawei, the Chinese tech giant, will transfer its ownership of trademarks and patents associated with the Aito brand to Seres Group, its partner in the automotive sector. This move underscores Huawei's commitment to refrain from directly manufacturing vehicles.
According to a statement from Chongqing-based automaker Seres, its subsidiary Seres Auto Co. will compensate Huawei and its affiliates up to 2.5 billion yuan (US$344 million) for 919 registered or pending text and graphic trademarks, along with 44 exterior design patents linked to the premium electric vehicle brand Aito.
Seres emphasized that this transaction will not alter its existing collaboration with Huawei. Instead, it ensures the long-term viability of the Aito brand, with Seres pledging to further strengthen its partnership with Huawei.
Huawei has consistently maintained its focus on providing leading smart, internet-connected vehicle technologies to assist automotive manufacturers in enhancing and marketing their vehicles, rather than directly entering car production.
Aito, launched on December 2, 2021, is a premium automotive brand developed jointly by Seres and Huawei, marking Huawei's inaugural venture into brand creation with an automotive partner.
