Recently, the Toyota Prius set a Guiness World Record for fuel efficiency, achieving an impressive 2.53 l/100 km during a coast-to-coast journey from Los Angeles to New York, spanning over 4,500 kilometers. More than twenty years ago, the Prius debuted as the world's first production hybrid car. When Toyota launched the Prius in Nepal in 2012, it represented a significant advancement for the nation’s auto industry. As the first hybrid vehicle in Nepal, the Prius attracted considerable attention, but this enthusiasm quickly faded due to its high price tag of over a crore, compounded by restrictive government policies.

While electric vehicles have recently captured the spotlight, hybrids—particularly strong hybrids and plug-in hybrids—provide a compelling option for consumers seeking sustainability without fully committing to electric power. The government needs to adopt more supportive policies to promote hybrid vehicle adoption.

The latest iteration of the Toyota Prius, featuring the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System and a 2.0L engine that delivers 194 horsepower in front-wheel-drive mode, is setting new standards in hybrid technology with its industry-leading fuel efficiency. This milestone marks the 30th recognition for the vehicle, further solidifying its status as a market leader.
