British PM Boris Johnson has confirmed that sales of new petrol and diesel cars will be phased out by 2030 - as part of his 10-point plan for a 'green industrial revolution'. Although the British government had originally planned to ban the sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2040, the new date has been put forward by the PM himself under his new plan.In a column published in the
Financial Times
, Johnson wrote that the government will "mobilise £12bn of government investment, and potentially three times as much from the private sector, to create and support up to 250,000 green jobs." He further says, "The government will invest more than £2.8bn in electric vehicles, lacing the land with charging points and creating long-lasting batteries in UK gigafactories. This will allow us to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans in 2030. However, we will allow the sale of hybrid cars and vans that can drive a significant distance with no carbon coming out of the tailpipe until 2035."The announcement comes hours after a new alliance was announced between Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, and others, to create Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA), a push for 100% electric cars sales only by 2030, in the US.
