Harley-Davidson X440, Co-Developed By Hero Motocorp, Launched In India At INR 2.29 Lakh

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson have launched their co-developed premium motorcycle, Harley-Davidson X440, in India at a starting price of INR 2.29 Lakh. The Harley-Davidson X440 will be available in three variants — Denim (INR 2.29 Lakh), Vivid (INR 2.49 Lakh), and S (INR 2.69 Lakh). The X440 has been specifically designed for the Indian market in collaboration with Hero Motocorp, with the latter also manufacturing and distributing the model in the country.

The Harley-Davidson X440 becomes the first premium motorcycle to be introduced under the licensing agreement between the two brands and it also marks Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson’s foray into the 440cc segment for the first time in India. The Harley-Davidson X440 is powered by a 440cc, single-cylinder, 2-valve, oil-cooled, long-stroke engine, to deliver 27 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission. The motorcycle offers an extremely flat torque curve, generating~90% of its peak torque from as low as 2000rpm. The bike gets an assist and slipper clutch as well.

The Denim variant of the X440 comes in a Mustard colour option with spoke wheels, while the Vivid variant is offered in dual-tone colours – Metallic Thick Red and Metallic Dark Silver – with alloy wheels. The S variant, on the other hand, gets a Denim Black colour scheme with 3D branding and premium finishes, machined alloy wheels, gold-coloured engine and body parts, machined engine fins and the ‘Connect 2.0’ package which enriches the riding experience with more than 25 notifications.

In terms of features, the X440 gets all LED lighting, a USB charging port and a 3.5-inch TFT display that shows a speedometer, tachometer, trip meters, odometer, service indicator and a side-stand alert. The motorcycle also gets Bluetooth connectivity with application support. The screen has two display modes – Day and Night. There’s also an accessory package on offer that includes a comfortable touring seat, backrest, bar-end mirrors, bash plate, fog lamps, windscreen, and saddle bags.

The X440 gets KYB-sourced 43mm dual cartridge USD forks in the front and gas-filled twin shock absorbers with 7-step pre-load adjustment. Braking duties are performed by a 320mm disc in the front and a 240mm disc at the rear. A dual-channel ABS comes standard. At the front is an 18-inch wheel shod with a 100/90 tyre, while the rear has a 17-inch wheel with a 140/70 tyre.

The Harley-Davidson X440 competes against the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa 42, Honda Hness/CB 350 RS, etc.
