New Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Makes Its Global Debut

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled its flagship SUV, the Grand Vitara. The Grand Vitara is the first mid-size SUV from Maruti which has been developed jointly with Toyota. The Grand Vitara is based on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV.

The fifth-gen Grand Vitara gets a bold stance and muscular body lines compared to its Toyota cousin. The SUV gets a new hexagonal grille with curvy edges, tri-LED DRLs, and a muscular bonnet to enhance its visual appeal. The side profile is characterised by a floating roof, blackened pillars, and a new alloy design.

At the rear, the SUV gets a unique tail lamp cluster with three-element horizontal LED lines on either side with connected LED tail lamp technology. The Grand Vitara measures 4345 mm in length, 1645 mm in width, and 1795 mm in height. The SUV has a wheelbase of 2600 mm.

Although the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV share the same interior, the former gets a comprehensive equipment list compared to its Toyota cousin. The new Grand Vitara will come loaded with a host of new features, such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, ambient lighting, driver and co-driver ventilated front seats, fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger,40+ connected features, and many more.

The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be available with two engine options: a 101 hp, 137 Nm, 1.5L petrol with mild hybrid technology and a 92 hp, 122 Nm, 1.5L TNGA Atkinson cycle petrol with strong hybrid technology, both sourced from Toyota. The latter comes paired with an electric motor that produces 79 hp and 141 Nm of torque resulting in a total power output of 115 hp. The available transmissions include a 6-speed torque converter and a 5-speed manual. Maruti claims a mileage of 27.97 km/l on the Strong Hybrid variant.

Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD tech will also be an option for the mild hybrid vehicle. The AllGrip Select offers the driver four modes to choose from – Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock – and the system is controlled electronically via a push-and-turn dial on the dashboard.

In terms of safety, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with Dual Airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist, Anti-Lock Braking (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution(EBD), ISOFIX child seat mounts, 3-point ELR seat belts (All seats), and rear disc brakes standard across all variants. The Grand Vitara also gets 6 airbags, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Hill Descent Control.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will compete in the Indian market against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, and Jeep Compass among others.
