Fast-forward to today, TVS has now unveiled a special edition of the Apache RTR 160 4V, marking another milestone in the series. This newly launched bike comes equipped with a plethora of features, coupled with competitive pricing. Now, let’s delve into what sets this special edition apart.

Design and Features:

The design philosophy of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V SE remains consistent with the Special Edition (SE) variant, with the notable exception being the new ‘Bullpup Exhaust.’ This distinctive exhaust not only enhances the bike’s aesthetic appeal but also plays a role in a commendable 1 kg reduction in overall weight, thereby improving the power-to-weight ratio. Alongside this feature, the SE includes a dual-tone seat, black and red alloy wheels, adjustable clutch and brake levers, and a rear radial tire, among various other enhancements.

TVS is also providing SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity for added convenience. The SmartXonnect system which is paired with an exclusive TVS Connect mobile app is available on both Android and iOS platforms. This enables riders to connect their smartphones via Bluetooth and access a variety of riding data.

It’s important to highlight that, apart from these additions, the rest of the features and specifications remain unchanged when compared to the standard RTR 160 4V. The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V SE, therefore, combines the familiar attributes of the standard model with these new upgrades, providing riders with an enhanced biking experience.

Performance and Handling:

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V stands out as the most powerful motorcycle in its category. With TVS updating the bike regularly, it has effectively set a high standard for others in the segment to strive for. It also benefits from insights provided by TVS Racing.

The bike is powered by a BS-VI compliant 159.7 cc, 4-valve, oil-cooled engine, generating 17.55 PS of power at 9250 RPM and a torque of 14.73 Nm at 7250 RPM. These specifications establish the RTR 160 4V SE as the most potent motorcycle in its class. In comparison, its closest competitor, the Pulsar NS160, achieves 17 PS/14.6 Nm, while the Pulsar N160 delivers 16 PS/14.6 Nm. Likewise, the Yamaha FZS, Suzuki Gixxer 155, and Honda X-Blade exhibit lower power figures.

In addition to its impressive performance features, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V incorporates an innovative feature designed to enhance the riding experience for individuals navigating through congested traffic—known as GTT, or Glide Through Technology. This brilliant feature proves particularly advantageous when faced with slow-moving traffic conditions, allowing riders to smoothly maneuver at very low speeds.

What sets GTT apart is its seamless functionality even when transitioning between first, second, or third gear. Engaging any of these gears, the motorcycle continues to crawl forward effortlessly, eliminating the need to constantly modulate the throttle. The rider simply has to let go of the clutch lever without giving any accelerator and the bike will smoothly glide through the traffic. This unique attribute offers a more relaxed and stress-free experience during stop-and-go situations.

Now, let’s talk about the ride modes. The Sport mode is the most powerful, whereas the Urban and Rain modes dial down the power and torque output. In Sport mode, the motorcycle provides 17.55 PS at 9250 rpm, while in Rain and Urban modes, the power decreases to 15.64 PS at 8600 rpm. Similarly, the peak torque drops from 14.73 Nm to 14.14 Nm at 7250 rpm in these modes.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V SE has consistently impressed us, thanks in part to its lively acceleration and admirable performance in the low and mid-range. The responsive engine of the RTR 160 4V makes it remarkably easy to navigate through traffic, and the rev-happy engine seamlessly complements the five-speed gearbox.

The synchronized stiff chassis offers excellent feedback, making the RTR 160 4V adept at handling corners. It retains its suspension setup with telescopic forks in the front and a monoshock in the rear. In a segment-first move, the motorcycle incorporates an adjustable brake and clutch levers, allowing riders to tailor their controls to individual preferences for an enhanced and personalized riding experience.

The bike maintains a planted feel in a straight line and exhibits confidence when tackling turns.  And, the upright riding position coupled with slightly-rear set footpegs makes for good ride quality, making the bike effortless to ride in heavy city traffic or carving corners.

Braking duties are handled by 270mm front and 200 mm rear petal disc brakes with single-channel ABS. The bike exhibits an impressive braking performance, bringing it to a rapid halt even under challenging conditions such as hard or panic braking. The inclusion of single-channel ABS ensures effective control and stability during sudden braking scenarios, adding an extra layer of assurance to the rider. However, the availability of a dual-channel ABS would have been a welcome addition.

Verdict:

The ‘Apache’ moniker has established a formidable presence in the Nepalese two-wheeler segment, and it’s undeniable that the RTR 160 4V series has transformed into the benchmark motorcycle in its category. The latest addition, the RTR 160 4V SE, stands out as an impressive offering, boasting the latest enhancements and an appealing price tag of Rs 3.74 Lakh*

While it lacks dual-channel ABS, the RTR 160 significantly impacts various aspects, particularly in terms of its impressive ride and handling characteristics. Whether you’re seeking a reliable companion for weekday commutes or an adventurous partner for weekend journeys on the open road, the RTR 160 4V SE is tailored to suit your needs. It combines proven performance with cutting-edge technologies, offering a well-rounded package to enhance your riding experience.
