Driving License Exam Becomes Easier In Bagmati Province; ’70 Points’ System Implemented

Bagmati Province is implementing the ’70-points’ system in the trial examination of driver’s license from December 4, 2022.

AD Space Available

The Department of Transport Management introduced the points-based system through the Driver’s License Examination Procedures Directive (2077), Bagmati Province had delayed its implementation citing technical preparations. The point-based system was set to come into effect in July 2021.

AD Space Available

A candidate can now secure 70 out of 100 in the practical tests (trials) to pass the test for a driving licence. Both two-wheelers and four-wheelers have a weightage of 100 points divided into seven categories.

For two-wheelers

Figure 8:  As per the new guidelines, a maximum of 20 points will be assigned in the ‘Figure 8’ test. Even if your vehicle touches the numbered line during the test, you won’t be considered fail. However, if you touch the numbered line twice, you will lose 5 points each.

Similarly, if you touch the boundary line more than twice, if the tire of your vehicle goes beyond the marked line, if you step on the ground more than once, if you do not make a figure eight from the right direction or in the right way, or if your vehicle gets turned off, you will be considered fail.

Narrow Plank:  This test consists of 10 points. You will fail the entire test if your foot touches the ground or if you leave the plank before crossing it.

U-Turn: This test consists of 10 points. You will fail the entire test if you forget to turn on the indicators or touch the marked line.

Traffic signals: The ‘traffic signals’ test has been assigned 15 points. You will lose all 15 points if you fail to follow the traffic signals.

Speedbreaker/Bumps: This test consists of 15 points. If your vehicle gets turned off or if you step on the ground, you will lose 5 points each. If you repeat any of these actions more than once, you will fail the entire test.

Ramp: The ramp test which consists of 20 points will see the candidate getting disqualified if their vehicle stops over the specified boundary, if the vehicle misses the boundary, if the vehicle crosses the specified boundary and if the vehicle gets turned off.

Behavioral aspect: A total of 10 points has been assigned to the candidate’s behavioral aspect. You will lose points if you ride recklessly, do not adjust your vehicle prior to riding and forget to properly wear your helmet.

For four-wheelers

Figure 8:  A maximum of 20 points will be assigned in the ‘Figure 8’ test. Even if your vehicle touches the numbered line during the test, you won’t be considered fail. However, if you touch the numbered line twice, you will lose 5 points each.

Similarly, if you touch the boundary line more than twice, if the tire of your vehicle goes beyond the marked line, if you do not make a figure eight from the right direction or in the right way, or if you reverse your vehicle instead of going forward, you will be considered fail.

Speedbreaker/bumps:  This test consists of 10 points. If your vehicle gets turned off once, you will lose 5 points. If you repeat any of those actions more than once, you will fail the entire test.
