EXCLUSIVE: Proton X50 Spotted in Nepal

Proton X50 has been spotted in the streets of Kathmandu. The Proton X50 is the newest addition from the Malaysian carmakers in Nepal and it competes with the likes of Kia Seltos, Toyota Raize, and Hyundai Creta. Jagdamba motors, a subsidiary of Shanker Group, is the official distributor for Proton Cars in Nepal. The Proton X50 will sit alongside the Saga sedan, and their X70 SUV in the company’s line-up in the Nepalese market and is expected to range from Rs. 65 Lakh to Rs. 85 Lakh.

According to our sources, the Proton X50 comes in 4 variants. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder, and a TGDi (Direct Injection) turbocharged three-cylinder petrol in the top flagship variant. The engines are stated to produce 150 PS of Maximum Power and 226 NM of torque with the TGDi engine upping the numbers to 130PS of power and 255 Nm of torque. It also features a 7-speed DCT transmission both of which is co-developed by Volvo and Geely.

The Proton X50 that was seen on the roads of Kathmandu comes with loads of features including an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which is only found in few selected premium brands. As per the manufacturer’s website,  the Proton X50 SUV encompasses best-in-class features that include 6 Airbags, ABS with EBS and BA, Auto Headlights & Wipers, Keyless Entry (with active touch sensors on the front door handles), Push-Start, 360-Degree Camera, 8 Speakers, 8-inch Infotainment Screen, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Climate Control with Smart Air Purifier System, Electrically Foldable Wing Mirrors, LED Projector Headlights with LED DRLs, LED Fog Lamps, 17 and 18-inch Alloy Wheels with the 18 inch coming in the top 2 variants. The Proton X50 also gets a nifty Auto Park Assist which is a self parking system that helps you ease into parking spots. The X50 also holds a full 5-star crash test rating from ASEAN-NCAP.

Like the X70, the Proton X50 is also expected to get the ‘HI PROTON’ voice command assistance system, a Global Key User Interface (GKUI) system that is able to detect and respond to selected voice commands to improve safety by allowing drivers to be attentive on the road ahead.  The Voice Command is able to answer basic queries as well as controlling major functions of the infotainment system and vehicle in-car functions. You can also control many other functions of the car such as Radio, Sunroof, Windshields, and Audio Call and so on.

The feature-packed SUV is expected to be launched in the coming weeks and is expected to come with a 5 year warranty with unlimited mileage.
