Kia has been steadily revamping its entire lineup, and it comes practically full circle with the newly unveiled Kia Sportage. The next-generation Kia Sportage replaces the aging crossover and is a radical departure from the outgoing generation. The fully-revamped model has now entered its fifth generation, debuting globally with its all-new design using the automaker’s new design philosophy called “Opposites United,” which initially debuted with the Kia EV6.

The Kia Sportage sports a very detailed fascia with distinct lighting elements that are reminiscent of the K5. But more importantly, the all-new model now bears Kia’s new badging. Also seen with the 2022 Kia Sportage is the reworked version of the Tiger Nose grille now called the Digital Tiger Face. The black meshed grille spans the whole fascia, while the boomerang-shaped DRLs separate it from the low-mounted headlamps.

The sides have more glass that visually lengthens the Sportage. The fifth-generation Sportage has clean lines accentuating the clean body surface. The global model gets a black roof available as an option, while a new wheel design highlights more of the profile.

It’s possible that it actually is longer, but we won’t know until Kia releases specifications. The rear again has full-width taillights, though this time they echo those of the EV6.

Inside, the Kia Sportage touts a contemporary cabin design that is just as much of a radical departure as seen on the exterior. It features two big screens for instruments and infotainment in a single black frame.

Air vents are geometric and spread across the dashboard. And on the photos of the press car, it appears there are more colors and higher-quality materials in use than the somewhat black and plasticky current model.

Kia hasn’t released details on powertrain, pricing, or size. However, it has revealed a slightly more rugged-looking X-Line variant which will bring a unique bumper, side sill, and curved roof rack. Inside, the X-Line can be had with a signature sage green or black seating, as well as bold quilting and black metal wood.

The 2022 Kia Sportage will have its full global market launch later this year, with more information about its powertrain and other important details to be revealed as that date nears.
