Mahindra and Mahindra has unveiled the Scorpio N based pickup concept along with the Thar.e electric concept at its Futurescape event in Cape Town, South Africa. The ‘Pik Up’ nameplate is what Mahindra currently uses as the model name for its Scorpio Classic-based pickup truck in many international markets including Nepal.

Based on Mahindra’s new-gen Ladder Frame platform, the Global Pik Up promises to be one of the market’s most versatile and capable pickups when it goes into production. The Global Pik Up has been designed as a versatile, robust, and stylish vehicle, suitable for a wide range of applications.

The Scorpio N based pickup concept shares similar styling cues as the Scorpio N. The pickup concept gets an aggressively styled popped-out grille, a new front bumper and a massive bash plate with tow hooks located at the lower end. The concept also features a snorkel for better water-wading capability. There’s also a roof rack with a wide LED light bar at the front.

Mahindra says the Global Pik Up will be packed with features and technology like semi-automatic parking, Level-2 ADAS capability, 5G-based connectivity features, and a sunroof, among many others.

With safety as a core focus, the Global Pik Up aims to meet global standards, including a 5-Star rating, using advanced safety technologies. The Global Pik Up concept also features Mahindra’s intelligent 4Xplore four-wheel-drive system to further augment the Pik Up capabilities.

The new pickup will be powered by a Gen-II all-aluminium mHawk diesel engine, which will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic. The Scorpio N based pickup truck will also get 4WD, shift-on-the-fly capability, and four drive modes.

The initial launch of the Global Pik Up is planned in existing markets, including South Africa, ANZ, Africa MENA & SCA. ASEAN markets will witness Pik Up’s introduction in the later stages.
