Recently, Omoda’s first purely electric model, the Omoda E5, undertook two critical electric vehicle battery safety tests: water wading and underbody scraping. It successfully passed these challenges, demonstrating the vehicle’s reliable safety capabilities.

The water wading test primarily aimed to verify the Omoda E5’s sealed waterproof performance. During the test, the Omoda E5 drove through a pool with water levels covering the front grille. Due to surging waves, the highest water level reached three-quarters of the vehicle’s front face during the testing process. Despite this, the Omoda E5 navigated the entire pool steadily. It successfully passed the test without any signs of water leakage or electrical faults, nor did it trigger any insulation data anomaly alarms.

The underbody scraping test was equally stringent, simulating “accidental” scenarios in real driving conditions where the vehicle encounters obstacles protruding above the road surface. In this test, the Omoda E5 drove over a 210mm high metal post, posing a significant challenge to the vehicle’s structural strength. After scraping its lowest point, 30mm above the obstacle, the underbody battery pack remained undamaged, and effectively protected. This demonstrated that even after an underbody scraping incident, the vehicle’s structure could maintain its safety and stability.

The Omoda E5’s satisfactory performance in both the water wading and underbody scraping tests is a testament to the company’s utmost pursuit of safety. According to the company, the Omoda E5 is the only one meeting the global 5-star safety rating among its rivals; C-NCAP, Euro NCAP, ANCAP, LATIN NCAP and Asian NCAP.
