Royal Enfield has introduced the all-new Himalayan in India, marking its debut with an initial price of INR 2.69 Lakh (Ex-showroom). The brand-new Himalayan represents a significant advancement for the Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer, featuring extensive updates in design, mechanics, hardware, technology, and more.

The new Himalayan is available in three variants: Base, Pass, and Summit. The starting price for the Base variant of the Himalayan 450 is INR 2.69 lakh, while the Slate model is offered at INR 2.74 lakh, and the Summit variant is priced at INR 2.79 lakh. The top-tier Hanle Black variant comes with a price tag of INR 2.89 lakh. All the mentioned prices are introductory (ex-showroom).

At the heart of the matter is Royal Enfield’s first-ever liquid-cooled engine, named the ‘Sherpa 450.’ With a displacement of 452cc, this single-cylinder powerplant delivers 40PS at 8,000rpm and 40Nm at 5,500rpm, including 33Nm of torque accessible from the 2,500rpm mark. The innovative engine incorporates a four-valve head, DOHC setup, and pairs with a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a slip and assist clutch. Despite the integration of new technologies and liquid cooling, the engine sheds approximately 10 kg compared to the older LS 411 motor, thanks to elements like a semi-dry sump and DLC coating.

The new Himalayan adopts an entirely redesigned steel twin-spar frame, utilizing the engine as a stressed member, and features a twin-sided swingarm. Its suspension, sourced from Showa, consists of a 43mm upside-down fork and a mono-shock, both providing 200mm of wheel travel. The braking system relies on a 320mm front disc with a double-piston caliper and a 270mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper, equipped with switchable dual-channel ABS.

Designed exclusively for this model, the Himalayan 450 comes with all-new tires mounted on wire-spoked wheels, featuring a 90/90 R21 front and a 140/80 R17 rear setup. It boasts a ground clearance of 230mm, a kerb weight of 196kg, and a 17-liter fuel tank. The bike offers a standard seat height of 825mm, extendable to 845mm, with a low seat option reducing it to 805mm.

Features include a newly designed circular 4-inch TFT instrument console integrated with full-fledged Google Maps, music control, and phone functions. Bluetooth connectivity allows for pairing with smartphones to display map data and manage music playback through a joystick on the left.

Additionally, the new Himalayan introduces LED lighting, a C-type USB charging port, ride-by-wire, and two riding modes: Eco and Performance. Royal Enfield also offers a diverse range of accessories categorized as Adventure and Rally, specifically tailored for the new Himalayan.
