Toyota Plans Three-Row Electric SUVs And Electric Cars For Emerging Markets By 2026

Toyota will be unveiling 10 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models across the luxury, SUV, compact and sedan, commercial and MPV as well as sports segments by 2026, the Japanese manufacturer has announced at its recently concluded 2023 financial results press briefing.

In an annual roundup of the company’s financial results, Toyota has also announced compact models for emerging markets. The compact cars for emerging markets could include India, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal and other ASEAN markets.

The new models planned till 2026 will be built on three different platforms, namely a software platform, an electronic platform, and a body and chassis platform. In addition, the Japanese manufacturer has also included two three-row electric SUVs in its timeline of additional models by 2026. Toyota has a target of 1.5 million battery electric sales by 2026.

It has also said that it’s completely rethinking the manufacturing process for EVs. The company has already announced that it will abolish its current ZEV (zero emissions vehicles) approach and establish BEV Factory, a new, dedicated organisation that will accelerate its EV development and business.

In December 2021, the Japanese giant unveiled 16 battery-electric vehicles across the Toyota and Lexus brands which are being prepared for market launch.
