Nrs 5.18 Lakh Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Is Currently The Hottest EV In China

This adorable mini electric-car is called the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV and it has been very well-received in the Chinese market raking in over 50,000 orders in just a few months of launch. Currently, it is only sold in China and built by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a joint venture between SAIC Motor, Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd, and General Motors.

The Hong Guang Mini EV generates 17.4 bhp of maximum power and 85 Nm of maximum torque. It has a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour and a range of up to 170 kilometers on a single charge. It can be charged using a normal 240V outlet.

GM says the Hong Guang mini EV has a practical “small on the outside, big on the inside” design. It is 2,917mm long, 1,493 mm wide and 1,621 mm high, with a 1,940-mm wheelbase. Similarly, the interior has up to 741 liters of space with the rear seats folded down. This is enough to accommodate two 26-inch suitcases or a stroller. It also features 12 storage spaces.

The model is equipped with the BMS intelligent battery management system, as well as low-temperature preheating technology and battery insulation. It has received an advanced IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating and been put through 16 rigorous safety tests. The battery’s functions can be remotely monitored via a smartphone app.

Adding to the safety, more than 57% of the Hong guang mini EV’s body consists of high-strength steel. It also comes with the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reversing radar, and two ISOFIX child safety seat restraint interfaces.

Prices for the Wuling Hong Guang EV start at just 28,800 yuan, which is equivalent to Nrs 5.18 Lakhs at the current exchange rate, and top out at 38,800 yuan, or Nrs 6.98 Lakhs (excluding customs duties and taxes)

    This looks like a very affordable car but at the same time, we should also understand the 7 lakhs of dealer’s cost and many other unnecessary add-ons. Nevertheless, this is a very practical solution to Nepal’s electrification process.
