The common goal of the two companies is the electrification of the Indian automotive market, one of the most important automotive growth markets.

With around three million new vehicles per year, India is one of the five largest automotive markets in the world. According to current forecasts, the market could grow to up to five million vehicles by 2030. So far, the market has been dominated by vehicles with diesel or gasoline engines.

At the 2021 UN Climate Change Summit in Glasgow, however, India undertook to register only emission-free new vehicles from 2035. The electrification of the passenger car segment is therefore likely to gain significant momentum in the coming years. Industry experts assume that by 2030, more than half of all new vehicles will already be pure electric cars.
