MG Motor India has launched the Comet EV in the Indian market at an introductory price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Comet EV is based on the Wuling Air EV that’s sold in Nepal, Indonesia and other ASEAN markets. The three-door EV is positioned in the entry-level EV segment alongside competitors such as the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3.

Just like the Wuling Air EV, the MG Comet EV too gets an illuminating MG logo in the middle and an extended full-width LED light bar which sits above it. The illuminating logo also serves as a charging port. The rear, too, gets full-width connecting lights. The Comet EV is one of the smallest cars available in India. It measures under three meters in length (2,974mm), 1,640mm in height, and 1,505mm in width with a wheelbase of 2,010mm. The Comet rides on 12-inch alloy wheels.

The Comet EV is equipped with a Tata AutoComp-sourced 17.3 kWh battery pack with an ARAI-certified range of 230 km. The single electric motor of the Comet develops 42 hp and 110 Nm of torque. MG is also offering a 3.3kW onboard charger that takes seven hours to fully charge the battery. The vehicle offers three drive modes, namely Eco, Normal, and Sport. The top speed is rated at 100 kmph.

The Comet EV will also share its cabin with the Air EV. Like the latter, it will get a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. The dashboard also sports a dual-screen set-up that houses two floating 10.25-inch screens. Two horizontally positioned AC vents and rotary air conditioning controls with chrome highlights are placed right below the screen.

In terms of safety, the Comet EV gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, IP67 battery, rear parking camera, LED rear fog lamp, tyre pressure monitoring system, Manual Day/Night IRVM, ISOFIX child seat mounts and  Seat belt reminder and three-point seatbelts for all four seats.

The MG Comet EV is available in three single-tone options: White, Black, and Silver, and two dual-tone options – Green with a Black roof and White with a Black roof. There are also multiple graphics packs categorised under sticker styles and lit packs.
