Xiaomi, the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer, recently introduced its inaugural electric car, the Xiaomi SU7, in China. Following its debut, the company announced it had received 88,898 confirmed orders for the SU7 within just 24 hours, making it sold out for 2024.

The SU7 model lineup comprises three variants: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max. These versions differ in battery capacity, powertrain specifications, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). While two variants feature rear-wheel drive, the top-spec model boasts all-wheel drive capability with dual motors for enhanced performance.

The Xiaomi SU7 EV is equipped with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) drivetrains. The RWD model boasts a single electric motor positioned on the rear axle, generating 295bhp. In contrast, the AWD version features a front-axle motor producing 295bhp and a rear-axle motor producing 368bhp, resulting in a combined output of 663bhp. The standard trim achieves a top speed of 210kmph, while the Pro and Max trims reach a top speed of 265kmph.

Measuring 4997mm x 1963mm x 1455mm, with a wheelbase of 3000mm, the Xiaomi SU7 offers generous space. It features a sizable 105-liter frunk (front trunk) along with a 517-liter boot space. Internally, the car provides numerous intelligent compartments designed to accommodate laptops, smartphones, and even small appliances like refrigerators. Notably, it includes a refrigerator offering 4.7 liters of capacity, sufficient for six standard cans of Coke.

This sedan provides a choice between two battery types– LFP and NMC. BYD, the automotive giant, will supply the LFP pack, while CATL, a battery technology firm, will provide the NMC cells. The standard SU7 trim is powered by a 73.6 kWh BYD’s LFP Blade Battery to deliver a CLTC range of 700 km. The SU7 Pro trim is powered by a 94.3 kWh CATL’s Shenxing Battery (LFP) and delivers a range of CLTC range of 830 km. The top-of-the-line, SU7 Max, features a 101 kWh CATL’s Qilin (NMC) battery to deliver a CLTC range of 800 km.
