Targeting the global market, this midsize-to-large pickup signifies a notable stride for the Chinese automotive giant, intensifying its competition against established global rivals like Toyota and Tesla. Comparable in size to the Ford Ranger PHEV, the Shark stands out as there are no other plug-in pickups of its class available in key markets such as China, Europe, or Australia where it will be marketed.

While specifics of the Shark’s powertrain remain undisclosed, it will share its platform with the front-wheel-drive BYD Seal U SUV, equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 194 horsepower. The Seal U PHEV incorporates an 18.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack, offering up to 68 miles of pure electric driving range.

Additionally, there are two all-electric versions of the Seal U, already present in China and soon to be introduced in Europe, featuring battery capacities of 71.8 kWh and 87 kWh, with claimed WLTP ranges of 260 and 310 miles, respectively.
