Suzuki is investing nearly $35 billion to produce five new electric vehicles in Europe by 2030, and one of them could be a Jimny EV. There’s no information regarding which model will come first, but we believe the production version of the recently showcased eVX concept could be the first fully-electric Suzuki to enter production.

The electric Jimny will retain its off-roading character with a ladder-frame architecture and four-wheel drive by featuring a dual-motor setup (one on each axle). Although there’s no information now whether the Jimny EV that Suzuki teased is a five- or three-door model, the addition of a battery could require the bigger Jimny 5-Door. We are expecting the Jimny EV to have a claimed range of around 350km.

Based on the target date set by each government, Suzuki aims to achieve carbon neutrality in Japan and Europe by 2050 and in India by 2070.

In Japan, starting with the introduction of commercial mini-vehicle battery EVs in FY2023, Suzuki plans to introduce compact SUVs and passenger mini-vehicles, with 6 models to be launched by FY2030. In Europe, Suzuki will introduce battery EVs in FY2024, expand to SUVs and B-segments, with 5 models to be launched by FY2030.

Similarly,  in India, Suzuki will introduce the SUV battery EV announced at the Auto Expo 2023 in FY2024, with 6 models to be launched by FY2030. Suzuki will provide not only battery EVs but also carbon neutral internal combustion engine vehicles that use CNG, biogas, and ethanol mixed fuels.
